The Difference Between PC2100 And PC3200 DDR RAM

Everybody always has the question, what is the difference between the different numbers that you see such as PC3200 or PC2100 DDR ram?

It tells you what speed the different memory board can go at. For example:

PC 3200 DDR RAM is the same AS DDR-400 or DDR400 RAM. It runs at 400 Mhz.

PC2700 DDR RAM is the same as DDR-333 or DDR333 RAM and runs at 333 Mhz.

PC2100 DDR RAM is the same as DDR-133 or DDR133 RAM and runs at 133 Mhz

PC1600 DDR RAM is the same as DDR-100 or DDR100 RAM and runs at 100 Mhz.

Unfortunately, even though the speed of a microprocessor might be 1.3 Ghz¡ the effective data transfer rate will be limited to the frequency of the motherboard's FSB.

AMD processors can run the RAM bus at a different speed from the processor bus.

Sound confusing? Well, it is.

When you get into overclocking, which means running your computer at speeds which are faster than what they're designed to go, you'll have to worry about such things. You, as a person who's more interested in just upgrading your computer to PC3200 DDR dimm memory, you'll need to know which is good to use on your computer.

Generally, if you install slower RAM such as PC2100 DDR ram on your computer, the transfer speed will automatically drop to the speed of the chip, in this case 133 Mhz. That means you could be transferring data at a much faster rate (as long as you computer takes faster RAM). So, don't purchase 2100 RAM if your computer can handle faster RAM.

PC2100 DDR SDRAM can go only at 133 Mhz (megahertz), but PC3200 DDR SDRAM 1gb boards will go at a significantly higher 400 Mhz, meaning that they'll transfer at nearly 3 ? times the speed of 2100 DDR.

In other articles I have said how you can install these boards. Remember, after installing boards, you should run a ram memory test to determine whether the computer's new RAM have any problems. RAM problems can cause strange symptoms to occur on your computer. If you have purchased two new boards, and you run the memory test on it and it says one of the two is bad. Try swapping slots. Then, rerun the MemTest.exe program (downloadable from the internet for free). If it now shows that the other memory is bad, then that memory is bad. If it shows that the first (same) memory is bad, then maybe the socket has some dust in it. Try blowing out the socket with air from either your mouth, or an air spray can. Then reset the chip and try the MemTest again.

If you just read all of my articles, you just found out what the difference is between PC3200 DDR ram and PC2100, you learned how to install DRAM in both a laptop computer and a destop, you learned how to get static off your hands so you didn't blow up the chips, you learned how to tell what frequency the chip was just by looking at the chip, and you learned that DRAM is complex and confusing. You learned the difference between DDR and DDR2, and you learned many other things.

Kingston HyperX RAM Modules

By Jeffrey Frasco
Kingston HyperX RAM modules are on top of their game-and a whole lot more. Plus, if it's coming from Kingston, I'm rest very-assured that I've got a good product (unless it happens to be one of those notorious Kingston counterfeits-which I had the distasteful experience of buying a "Kingston DDR2 2 gigabyte modules", only to find out that they were phonies and would not even set-up right in BIOS!). Ok, venting aside, let's take a glance at my friends system, its HyperX modules, and various other offerings from Kingston.

Slow PC - Danger Sign of Low Computer RAM

By Jeffrey Frasco
RAM, or Random Access Memory, is what the computer uses to run programs and applications. Your computer needs RAM to boot, run your operating system and open web pages online. Low computer RAM, or Random Access Memory, is not a healthy condition for your computer. If you do not have enough RAM to load your open applications, you will have a very slow PC that will not be able to run your applications properly.
