Installing Laptop RAM MemoryBack when you bought your laptop it was probably a fast laptop, fastest they made at the time, but now that you have Vista or Windows 7 and you installed the newest Photoshop CS4, it's running really slow. Laptop ram memory can help get it going faster. A computer ram upgrade is not all that hard to do. When you're interested in upgrading, you should put the model number of your laptop into Google's search engine and determine just what the memory is called that goes into your computer. You should never order the memory unless it's particularly specified for your exact model computer. If you have a Sony, it might not take the same memory that an HP takes.
To do a laptop ram upgrade, first you'll have to order the laptop ram memory. In your computer's manual it will always have a section on how to upgrade ram. Generally, though, there is a little door on the bottom of the laptop that the RAM is to be inserted into. Sometimes there is a screw that needs to be unscrewed, they tend not to make it too difficult because replacing your laptop's memory is one of the few things that just about everybody does all by themselves. The first thing you should do when you get the memory is you should touch your hands to something that's grounded, like your water faucet. Electrons that are on your hands will be sucked away and any static charge that was on your body will be neutralized. If you walk across the rug on your way back to the card, then it will build back up again. So, bring your laptop over to the sink and work on it right there. Figure out how to open the door where the DRAM goes (it might be SRAM. It might need PC3200, or PC 2100, or other specialty kinds of RAM, so make sure the number of pins match, and the two notches (or one notch) match up. You won't be able to plug in the RAM if it isn't the right kind of RAM. Laptop ram memory isn't too hard to put in, but it's not the simplest thing in the world, either. Once you've got the cover off the place where it goes you'll see a little black connector, or two of them, or more depending upon how many slots the manufacturer gave you. They almost never give you more than two because they're trying to conserve space in a Laptop and laptop ram memory just isn't important enough to warrant more than one expansion slot, usually. Anyways if you have one slot, then you'll have to remove the one that is there, and put in the one you're replacing it with. There are definite restrictions on the size of the RAM that can go in a laptop. So make sure that it isn't already maxed-out, because if it takes only 2 GB and you already have 2 GB in there, it won't take a 4. Putting in a 4 MB won't work if the limit was 2. |
