Why You Need A Computer RAM Upgrade

To 'upgrade' your computer means to take an older computer and make it go faster by purchasing something that now goes faster than it did 5 years ago, or by adding something which makes it work better. A computer ram upgrade can sometimes make that happen, particularly if your computer only has 512 MB of RAM in it.

Under Windows XP, to find out how much RAM your computer has, go to 'My Computer', right-click it, and select 'properties'. If your computer only had 512MB of RAM, it would say it in the area that says 'Computer'.

So, a computer ram upgrade, in this case, would speed up how fast programs run after they have been transferred from your storage hard drive into RAM. If everything could run directly out of RAM, then boy would everything be super-fast. And, that's a clever trick to do, put a program in RAM, for example. Then, when it runs, it not only runs fast, but it loads fast. A flash drive is like that. If you have a netbook with a flash drive installed, then that means it's storage device is really also RAM. That means that it will have really fast virtual memory as well as having fast DDR ram memory, because the virtual drive acting as if it is RAM really is RAM. Cheap ram memory is available that will let you do that whether you have a Dell, an HP, or some other computer.

If you have less than 2 GB or RAM, you should consider purchasing a computer ram upgrade. To learn how to upgrade ram, search on Google for 'Upgrade RAM' and type the name and model of your computer.

If you are upgrading a laptop, there is usually a little door in the bottom that has a screw that holds the door closed. Remove the screw, take off the plastic plate, take the RAM chip, make sure the laptop is turned off, plug in the chip and make sure it's nice and tight in the socket. With laptop memory, it generally fits into the socket at a 45 degree angle, then pushes down to seat it firmly. You'll hear a 'snap' once it has connected and is all the way down. Look on the internet to see if there are diagrams which show how it goes. You can't put it into the socket wrong. You can only not seat it all the way, or that's about it.

There's a certain level that occurs, however, where a computer ram upgrade makes little speed increase occur. Once you get to about 4 GB of RAM, unless you are an extremely vigorous user, you won't notice any difference in speed. If you run six programs all at the same time, and you're doing 3D rendering in the background at the same time as you're trying to play a DVD¡­ then you will notice a difference.

However, for Mr. Joe Blow, who probably doesn't do much besides browse the internet, use MsWord, play some MP3 music while he's doing it and chat via E-Mail, you'll see no difference once you upgrade to 2 GB.
