Why Do You Need Cheap RAM Memory? When considering whether to purchase cheap ram memory, memory is getting less and less expensive. The more people that buy it, the more it comes down in price. Also, if newer computers use 2 GB chips, the old 512 MB chips aren't considered to be very good any more, and thus you can get them for almost nothing. Someone might even give you some because when you do a computer ram upgrade or a laptop ram upgrade you oftentimes end up with perfectly good memory that you can no longer use. When you are buying cheap ram memory to replace your laptop ram memory, then you'll have to make sure that, afterwards, you run a memory test on the RAM to ensure that there are no weak bits in the RAM. The cheaper the RAM, the more chance that a bit might go bad. Better quality integrated circuits are tested more, so they tend to have less problems.
Still, really cheap memory is theoretically as good as the best memory is. I always go for Kingston memory as they have a good calculator on their website which helps you figure out which memory your particular computer uses. Also remember that your video card might allow you to upgrade it's RAM, as well. If you increase the amount of memory on the video card, then your video capability will rise. The speed of playing games, in particular, will go up. Cheap SDRAM memory is now so cheap that you can purchase it for less than $20. Know, though, that expansion of your RAM above a certain level improves the performance very little. Only if you do such things as work with Photoshop on super-huge pictures will you see an advantage. Cheap ram memory has it's limits. The thing that can slow down a computer, though, is virtual memory. Your computer wants to load everything from the hard drive into memory because memory is faster than a hard drive, and because programs aren't designed to run straight off storage. In order to run a program, the program is grabbed off the storage device and is placed into RAM. Then, and only then, will a program start 'running'. What if your computer has 512 MB of RAM, yet the program is 1 GB in size, or uses 1 GB of RAM even if the program is smaller than that (Photoshop loads itself into memory, then opens up an area that it will modify as you draw the picture. It actually opens up many layers of memory). Then, when it has run out of all available RAM, it will start pretending that storage area is RAM. This is called virtual memory. The computer turns the storage area memory into a thing which exactly mimics RAM. Then it says to the computer that it is RAM and the computer from then on will treat that storage area as if it were RAM. RAM needs are very small, relatively. Even Photoshop with it's massive needs, only will need 5 GB tops. Storage can be above 500 GB in size. So, 5 GB is enormous as far as RAM goes, but is nothing when you're considering storage area. The more cheap ram memory you have, the less slow virtual memory will be used and the faster things will be able to occur. |

How Much RAM Does Your Mini Notebook Need?
By Paul Bomers
Random-Access Memory or RAM as it's more commonly known is a vital part of any mini notebook. You hear more and more these days that if your computer is running slow you should upgrade your RAM. While mini laptops use the same type of RAM as other standard notebooks and laptops, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before attempting to upgrade your RAM. Below we'll look at a few of those and make some recommendations to make sure you don't waste time or money in the process.

Kingston HyperX RAM Modules
By Jeffrey Frasco
Kingston HyperX RAM modules are on top of their game-and a whole lot more. Plus, if it's coming from Kingston, I'm rest very-assured that I've got a good product (unless it happens to be one of those notorious Kingston counterfeits-which I had the distasteful experience of buying a "Kingston DDR2 2 gigabyte modules", only to find out that they were phonies and would not even set-up right in BIOS!). Ok, venting aside, let's take a glance at my friends system, its HyperX modules, and various other offerings from Kingston.
